give us a book to save communities

tHe give a child a book Initiative

Several years ago, a small group of university students and youth community leaders, set out with a dream to make a book donation to disadvantaged and marginalised communities in Zimbabwe, with particular focus on the rural community.
That dream has grown to a reality, and became ‘the give a child a book initiative’ and seeks to touch the lives of millions of children of school going age.
It took a couple of visits to Zimbabwe’s remote areas to inspire this initiative to change the situation of collapsing rural schools. It was clear that there are no libraries, information centers in these schools. Where there is one, there would worn out books, some outdated and irrelevant to any child of school going age.
In these communities, children who are lucky to be in school and those without opportunities live very modest with limited resources; nevertheless, presenting a potential of changing their lives to the better.
In an effort to ensure that anyone in these communities has a chance to prosper, we formed the give a child a book initiative, to afford every child to use the book as their stepping stone to success.
The give a child a book initiative is dedicated to the fundamental idea that books are key in the acquisition of knowledge for any society that cherishes successful livelihoods- bearing that when you give someone a book, you not give them pages bound up together, but you offer them a possibility of a new chapter in their lives.

WHAT WE DO
We are solely concentrating on sourcing and donating books for school going children in disadvantaged societies. By so doing, equipping such communities to establish book / information centres, school libraries and reading classes that promote literacy and cultivate local literary talents.
Our book donations provide the necessary guidance to children of school going age to receive knowledge from books and other literary material and also form a strong foundation for them to grow and thrive.

WHO WE HELP
Many of the places we work in suffer from extreme poverty, lack of basic resources, limited medical care and educational resources and past internal conflicts.
Thanks to the people we have met on our journey – many of whom face difficult living conditions, yet still manage to find hope in the midst of their daily struggles – we believe now more than ever in the resiliency of the human spirit, and in the ability of knowledge to transform a dire situation into a positive one.
The Give a Child a Book Initiative offers hope to children everywhere. We believe that when given the choice, the majority of children will choose a positive, inspiring path in life over a negative one.

WHERE WE ARE GOING
In our ongoing effort to connect societies through books, we strive to:
-Continue progress with schools currently in development.
-Develop new book centres and donation programs.
-Establish valuable partnerships with other organisations.
-Expand the book opportunities and resources available to communities in need.

This initiative is one that all other forward thinking concepts can follow; by establishing such projects and sharing it with communities worldwide, we strive to be a part of the rising consciousness of the human race.
The Give a Child a Book Initiative is committed to creating positive change through books and education.

Books are our ammunition.

if u have a book to share, then bring it on and help create a shelf where there is none
